Taylor John’s House, Coventry

26 Jan, 2008

taylor johns houseMmmmm… No sign of Taylor John but lots of lovely people cheering us on in his living room. First gig on the first tour for the first album. Well, third, depending where you start counting from. But this is definitely the first blog entry.

Had lots of fun with the all-new Susie Satnav in the Clivemobile. She certainly knows what she’s talking about and Clive likes to be told what to do. Got there early and had to resort to Starbucks for refreshment. Pete swears by the hazelnut soya thing. Me and Jim had a ‘rocky road’, a curious, tiffin-like thing with small lumps of marshmallow. Bit like eating cake with rubber bands in it.

TJH was a treat. Dark, cave-like, cozy. Excellent veggie curry. Good sound in the gig room and a great engineer who played all the right music. First chance to try out my new sax mic. It works!

Gig was very good indeed. Always nerve-wracking to play to an unknown audience: will anyone turn up? Will they like the music? Will they like our shiny suits? Answers: yes to all. Young, beautiful, appreciative Coventrites attended in numbers, sat in rows. No dancing/floor-writhing despite Jim’s invitations but heck, maybe we got the Coventry intelligentsia? Highlights were Cake Hole, Bleach Cake, The Unnameable. Always a good sign when an audience like the loud ones. Einstein Action Figure is starting to sound good too (still needs some thought structurally… hmmm…). So all in all an excellent gig. And Coventry’s intelligentsia very cleverly left with CDs – the first ones! Not so cleverly, someone left with 3 of our lovely new t-shirts without paying for them (that’s another way of saying stealing, by the way). We’re putting it down as viral marketing…

So, a g great start to the tour but back home we go. Susie Satnav was very firmly told to shut it on the way home. As was the voice saying “don’t eat those pies”.

Manchester next. Will try and persuade Jim to write about that one.

P.S. Special thanks to Sharon who risked life and limb (or at least getting banned) by asking people to sign up to our mailing list. Muchos Gracias.
