The Thekla, Bristol

Tuesday 12th February

Susie satnav is given the night off in her sexy zip-up neopreen style bag jacket thing!

We meet aboard “The Thekla” the Trawler like ship that used to smell of Rusty-Oily-Diesil-Poo-Poo-water but is now lovely painted bolts and open plan stage and Copper plated bar. Dr Rick of All Tomorows Parties fame helps us through a thorough soundcheck. Inspite of scary electrical activity on the stage, we meet a secret agent from the record company and sit down to Beer Battered Cod or Pizzas called “Rear Admirals”

Our friends “The Liftmen” operate their singular musical machiney for the passengers who’ve come aboard, jamie their drummer even manages to play whilst suffering a migraine, I think his 70’s style brown anorak with gold and red trim saves him. after their excellent performance, Jim and I place a sponge cake at the front of the stage - where else would you put a cake baked specially for the band? Jim assumes the Titanic role of captain and Jake Pete and I do our best to bless the ship and passengers, after several attempts, Jim manages to persuade the listeners to eat the Cake in time for “Bleach cake” and before we know it, we are back at the Quayside having never moved an inch! Soon we play our last tour gig at Cafe Jazz - Cardiff…….TTFN Clive
